ParticipantI have seen quite a few perfectly good and useable Tamaya sextants available for sale online that are missing and without the older “unavailable” no longer made mirror adjusting wrench tool. For those in need of that rare tool that is no longer available, there is a solution.
I can confirm that for about $10 on EBay you can purchase a watch makers collection of old fashioned pocket watch winding keys sold on a chain that cover all sizes of pocket watch winding keys. On that chain you will find a key marked size “00” or more commonly called a double-aught key. The double-aught “00” key fits PERFECTLY onto the Tamaya recessed square adjustment shaft with little or no play.
Please help spread the word! I found this to be a real relief to my older Tamaya “Jupiter” backup sextant that I was not able to adjust.
Good luck with your results.MartinT

ParticipantHi Ken,
Thanks for the reply. Quick question; if you are “Ken” at Celestaire, then kudos to you! It was YOU that mentioned to me some time ago that you thought maybe the pocket watch key winders might work. All I am doing is confirming that yes indeed they do!
Many thanks to you for planting that seed. Now… The only down side I see is what the heck do I do with the other dozen or so keys? HA! — a nice problem to have considering the $10 dollar trade off! 🙂Fair winds and clear twilights …
