A Planetary Wake up Call!
Ch-ch-ch-ch changes. Time brings change, but some times are more fraught with change and the need for it than others, and these are times of great change. We are at the outset of a major astrological configuration that astrologers have been eyeing warily from a comfortable distance for years. Well, the comfort zone has all but vanished and our challenging future has fast become our present day reality. Please keep in mind; astrology does not predict the future. It symbolically describes the nature and qualities of time giving us an idea of how life is changing, what it is giving rise to and how we may more consciously participate with this ever-evolving creative process.
The symbolic scenario looks like this: Uranus, the unpredictable, wild card planet of disruptive, radical change, instability, innovation, ingenuity and of all that is new and alternative, and Saturn the establishment planet of tradition, security structures, control, fear of change, conservatism and the status quo, and Pluto planet of power dynamics, energy, earthâs resources, the mysterious depths of human nature, catharsis, destruction and renewal are entering into a confrontational and tension-filled t-square with each other.
Saturn and Uranus, polar opposites by nature, are further polarizing by coming into the first of five exact oppositions with each other beginning on November 4th - Election Day- what timing (who will win is hard to say, but Obamaâs chart is looking good come Inauguration Day). They will counter each other again in February and September of 2009,and in April and July 2010. The last time these two planets faced-off was during the infamously tumultuous sixties. And, then, just as now, potent Pluto was in on the mix, stirring the pot from the bottom up and raising the temperature on the cauldron of change. The time before that was from 1929 thru 1933 during The Great Depression. Although Pluto does not precisely aspect the other two until 2010, the Uranus and Pluto square is already churning-up cultural change and turning entrenched power dynamics upside down, plain to see in the ground-breaking presidential candidacies of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Throughout the sixties, Uranus and Pluto, both vast change agents, were aligned together and opposing status quo Saturn. The period was a hotbed of revolutionary socio-cultural change in music, art, film, fashion, and huge technological advances. Big strides were made in the womenâs movement, the gay and civil rights movements, and the environmental and human potential movements. This time around, the configuration varies with Pluto squaring both Saturn and Uranus as they challenge each other, adding a dramatic intensity to the high tension between the fear and resistance to change and the desire and dire need for it. Saturn and Pluto at odds embody the classic rock and a hard place metaphor, the combination has been described as more and more of less and less. Saturn is the planet of scarcity, lack, shortages, conservation and prudence. Pluto is the planet of uses and abuses of power, vast wealth, (plutocrats) energy, and earthâs underground resources, such as oil and coal. Saturn and Pluto in square signify a scarcity or tightening of resources, struggles over power and control, and strife over debt and depression. This is especially so now since Pluto entered Capricorn, the sign of economics, politics, and governmental structures, last January rocking the world economy.
Friction between Uranus and Pluto can spark a vast and deep chain reaction of change on all levels from geological changes on the planet to enlightening, evolutionary shifts in human consciousness, and transformative technological advances. The antagonistic relationship between Saturn, Uranus and Pluto brings underlying problems, tensions and strains to critical mass ensuring both breakdowns and breakthroughs. Something has to give and will. How it will depends largely upon our willingness to wake up from a massive state of denial, embrace necessary change, and do something about the precarious position in which we find ourselves.
The worst case scenarios for stressful aspects between Saturn, Pluto and Uranus are pretty dreadful, but face it, where we stand with climate changes occurring at an alarming rate, extreme weather patterns, the protracted war in Iraq threatening to shift to Afghanistan or Iran; oil, water and food fast becoming precious commodities, a mass extinction of plant and animal life well underway, an ever-weakening U.S. dollar, enormous debt, and faltering economy, etcetera, etcetera, the scene out there is quite horrifying. But life is change, it gets better and worse depending on how clearly we see it and the choices we make. Itâs a highly interactive phenomenon.
Al Goreâs speech on July 17th speaks directly to the essential themes of the Saturn- Pluto-Uranus configuration and helps us to envision a better case scenario outcome. If we have not been using our resources, energy, power and influence wisely and well when Saturn (responsibility) and Pluto (power) meet we are faced with the consequences of our choices, which is where we are now. As Gore succinctly puts it, âWeâre borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet.â- not exactly stellar stewardship of our planet and resources. But it is often only when we are between a rock and a hard place and unflinchingly face painful realities that we find the willingness and fortitude to make difficult changes and come up with inventive solutions.
Gore challenges us âto commit to producing 100 percent of our electricity from renewable energy and truly clean carbon-free sources within 10 years.â An eleventh hour Mission Impossible to be sure, but at least itâs a goal worth shooting for. The energies of these three planets can, and do, creatively and constructively work together with some awareness and effort. Galvanizing Uranus, ruler of electricity, is in there with Saturn and Pluto urging us to wake up to the truth of our situation, enlightening us with new discovery, and inspiring us with revelatory ideas, innovations and ingenious solutions. Saturn engenders accountability, discipline, perseverance, organization and pragmatic realism. Pluto connects us to the mysterious depths and wisdom of our feeling nature and the power and strength to regenerate our lives that quietly lives within each of us waiting to be found. Pluto offers insight into what must be let go of and transformed and the courage to undergo difficult life passages of loss and renewal.
We all love nail-biting, cliffhangers at the movies. Well, weâve got ourselves a real live one here. Letâs see if we can use all that weâve got to be our own heroes and save the day.

A Reality Altering Ride: Uranus and Neptune Swap Signs
Electric, high-tech Uranus and watery, unifying Neptune have been taking each otherâs signs for a spin since 2003 and weâll be along for that reality-altering ride until 2011. Inventive Uranus and visionary Neptune are involved in an interplay of energies called mutual reception. This astrological construct occurs when two planets occupy each otherâs zodiacal signs. Uranus rules Aquarius where Neptune has been since 1998, and in 2003, Uranus entered Pisces ruled by Neptune. This mutual receptivity creates an amplified resonance and heightened exchange of energies between the planets involved.
Now through 2010, this planetary combination is given a further boost as they are 30º apart from one another. This is the first aspect between them since their momentous conjunction of the early 90âs which ushered in the World Wide Web, cell phones, virtual reality and the big wave of digital technology which is still cresting - we havenât been in Kansas for quite some time now. The last conjunction between this paradigm-shifting pair occurred in the early nineteenth century coinciding with the Industrial Revolution, which stimulated the growth of Industrial Capitalism, Marxism and the Romantic Movement.
Myriad meanings and outcomes can be explored with this planet and sign configuration. Aquarius is an air sign associated with advances in the arts and sciences, intellectual and creative freedom and collaboration, social networking, political discourse, radio, TV and broadcasting, and computer technology. Neptune the dissolver of boundaries and promoter of popular trends and mass appeal entered edifying, egalitarian and widget-loving Aquarius at the end of the nineties bringing us Google, DVDâs, MP3 players, Wikipedia, wireless technology, and blogging- the sharing of oneâs ideas, opinions and creations with everyone and anyone in cyberspace. Once exciting Uranus entered mesmerizing Pisces in 2003, cyberspace became an even more alluring place.
Pisces and Neptune rule images, photography, movies, music, advertising, fashion, glamor, popularity and celebrity, and Uranus signifies unique individuality and creative expression. Come 2003, anybody and everybody began showing-off their stuff to the world via internet and television and began seeking stardom and celebrity en mass. American Idol and reams of reality shows starring Jane Doe and Joe Schmo had taken hold on prime time TV. In 2003, My Space was launched, in 2004, Facebook, and in 2005, the phenomena of U tube allowing each of us to be the writer, producer, director and star of our own videos. By 2006 Time Magazineâs person of the year was You ââfor seizing the reins of global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own gameâ¦â
This planetary combination presages an unprecedented opportunity for millions of people to have instant access to every type of knowledge and information available and to share their ideas and talents with others anywhere in the global network. The collaborative creative potential is vast, as is its potential to bridge cultural and political divisions and build new international communities. A downside to this technological dissolution of boundaries is there is even less of a demarcation between work and rest, society and solitude -- nowhere to get away from it all, to turn off the static and tune into some sanity-saving, serenity. We are all hooked up and tuned in, but to what? We have never had so many labor and time saving devices yet been so busy with so little time. An amusing outcome to Uranus (sci-fi nuts, hi-tech freaks, and odd balls) in Pisces (glamor, fashion and trends) is that geeks are now chic.
When the scientific wizardry of Uranus teams up with the mystical nature of Neptune, this iconoclastic combo tends to challenge and change consensus reality and established scientific paradigms. Together they represent explorations in consciousness and the nature of reality, and inquiry between the sciences and spiritual studies. Uranus and Neptune combined symbolize periods of heightened spiritual seeking and awakening. We can see this combination of energies illustrated in the popularity of recent movies such as What the Bleep do We Know?, The Secret and The Moses Code, which explore spirituality and the interface of consciousness and reality. The mutual reception of Uranus in Pisces and Neptune in Aquarius is well illustrated by Aquarian Oprah Winfreyâs webcast of spiritual teacher, Echart Tolleâs lecture series on his book, A New Earth. Her website is also offering daily lessons from The Course in Miracles taught by Marianne Williamson. Here we see many of the Uranus and Neptune themes interacting. TV, Computers, spirituality, consciousness raising, enlightenment, celebrity and mass appeal.
Distressing manifestations of this planetary exchange are also evident. Neptune and Pisces also represent deception, fraud, theft, loss, victimization, escapism and addiction; the Internet has become a breeding ground for credit card fraud, identity theft, and predatory practices of all kinds. Many people have become virtually lost in cyberspace due to the addictive nature of Internet porn, gambling and virtual world games such as Second Life. Will we use our virtual tools to inform ourselves and better the world we share or will they be another trivial distraction and escape, or worse a means by which we can be further manipulated and controlled by corporate greed and governments? User beware.
At their best, Aquarius and its ruler Uranus, and Pisces and its ruler Neptune , represent, evolved states of human consciousness with visionary, highly creative, humanitarian and universal themes. And though they share some common themes, they also symbolize contrasting life principles. Aquarius and Uranus represent diversity, unique individuality and communications within lifeâs multiplicity. Neptune and Pisces represent union, dissolution of differentiating boundaries and a felt communion with all of life. Aquarius and Uranus are intellectual, exemplifying creative universal mind or intelligence, while Pisces and Neptune are more emotional, exemplifying universal love and compassion. Together they represent lifeâs essential paradox and mystery that we are both one and many simultaneously.
As enlightening Uranus and compassionate Neptune travel in each otherâs signs, we are invited to awaken from our dark dreams of a doomed future and to join our ingenious and innovative Uranian talents with our Neptunian gifts of inspiration and empathy. It is time for vision quests both individually and collectively that we may see our way into this coming century whole in one big peace.

Pluto: Demoted, But Still as Potent
Pluto may have been demoted, dwarfed and relegated to a mere number by the astronomers, but it has not lost any of its stature or clout with astrologers, and Pluto called by any other name or number will still turn you inside out when it hits your chart. In fact, from an astrological vantage, Plutoâs power is only picking up steam as it traverses back and forth over the position of the galactic center at 26°51â of Sagittarius, and steadily approaches 0° of Capricorn, a point in the zodiac representing the world
stage, which it will finally reach in 2008 and â09.
Amplifying Plutoâs energy further is a long term square forming from that radical, revolutionary and electrifying catalyst of change, Uranus. The square wonât be exact for five years, but the chemistry between them is already cooking, and it promises to be a hell of a build-up. The last time these two rowdy rebels got together in a major way, they rocked the house right through the infamous 1960âs, and we havenât seen the likes of it since, so get ready, theyâre tuning up their instruments now. The times they are a changinâ. All that has been oppressed, disempowered, disenfranchised, and alienated will be revolting and uprising. If you feel like time has been speeding up in the last few years, you ainât seen nothing yet. The accelerated change button on our saturnian, space/time based reality is being pressed to the metal. Time is warpinâ and weâll be woofinâ.
We have the dubious fortune of having Pluto co-star with the Sun in every Solstice and Equinox chart for more than a decade, and weâre not quite half way there yet. In the Winter Solstice chart, it is a potent conjunction in which the two energies are joined. The sun signifies the individualized ego and its relationship to spirit and the light of consciousness. In the solstice chart, it represents the zeitgeist, or spirit of the time.
Pluto signifies the underworld and subterranean both literally and metaphorically. It represents the deep, dark, mysterious, hidden, taboo, unconscious side of human nature and life. It speaks to the primal, instinctual, rejected, disowned, denied and shadowy parts of us. Some of its themes are: death and regeneration, destruction and renewal, energy and the resources within the earth, depth psychology, the mysteries of existence, sexuality, the use and abuse of power and wealth, catharsis and transformation, and deep evolutionary change. When you think Pluto, think atom; it is a tiny substructure of matter, with titanic power for both creation and destruction concealed within it. On a spiritual level, Pluto represents the mysterious relationship between the personal will and the deeper will of the evolving soul.
Clearly, we are passing through dark and ominous times. This ongoing relationship between the Sun and Pluto, along with the imminent Uranus and Pluto square, present an opportunity to shine the light of consciousness into the shadowy recesses of our hearts and minds and the world we have created. The violence and insanity of the world doesnât just exist out there, it is a reflection of the division and turmoil we each carry within us. Most of us fear and loathe acknowledging our dark and unsavory feelings and behaviors. Few of us want to own our selfishness, dishonesty, greed, hatred, jealousy, intolerance, cruelty, addictions etc., etc. Its much more palatable to project it onto others and bolster our shaky egos with the belief that we are among the innocent and righteous. Many of us do this by identifying with and hiding behind religious and political ideologies, for others of us a false self-image will do just fine. During this time, the universe is providing the energetic opportunity, both individually and collectively, to take a long, courageous, penetrating look at what the hell we are doing to each other, our beautiful planet and ourselves. Plutoâs energy operates like a volcano or boil bringing tensions and toxins that have been stewing beneath the surface erupting up to be released that the system may survive and thrive. So in a way, it is as if there is a huge magnetic field bringing all the sh_ _ to the surface right now for us to see and transform. Have you noticed?
It is more than a little ironic that Pluto has been publicly demoted at time when its influence is actually intensifying. I agree with astrologer, Lisa Dale Millerâs assessment of the situation, who wrote in an on-line article about Plutoâs demotion, âThe dwarfing of Pluto is in fact a perfect metaphor for a world in denial of its own destructive nature.â Now is a time of coming clean, of exposing the truth of corruption in our institutions, governments, corporations and ourselves. Itâs time to reclaim what we tend to deny, ignore, disown, and repress, and Iâm not just talking about the murky, disturbing stuff. We are also capable of disowning our gifts, and the best and brightest aspects of ourselves too â and we sure could use those parts of ourselves to get us out of the mess weâre in.
When the Sun and Pluto meet, it is time to become more aware and accepting of the shadow play between light and dark, saint and the sinner, noble and ignoble. Pluto is a passionate, extreme, paradoxical archetype inviting us to explore the heights and depths
of our being. As ruler of the wealth of the underworld, Pluto wants us to fully know the richness of our souls.
Obviously, astrologers will continue to call Pluto by name. Little as it is, itâs still one of the heavyweights in the planetary Pantheon. By the way, bear in mind, one of Plutoâs favorite themes is death and rebirth, so there is a good likelihood that within the next few years its status will be reinstated. Itâs not over âtill the fat phoenix sings. Until then, remember the ancient Greek imperative to honor and pay homage to the gods and goddesses and what they hold dear. We discount and ignore the gods at our own peril, for they are none other than ourselves.

Chiron conjuncts Neptune: Time to Embody Your Essence
The mystery and magic of being an individual is to live life in response to the deep call within, the call to become who we were meant to be.
John O’Donohue
A significant yet subtle union is forming between the planets of healing, Chiron and Neptune. This conjunction is a slow moving, long-term transit whose broad range of influence spans the years between 2005 and 2015, if we consider a 10º orb. This year the transit will come close to exact, and in June 2009 it will come within minutes of culminating, but it will not be precise until February 2010, so we have two years to make the most of this energy pattern as it gains strength.
This transit arrives on the heels of the Saturn and Neptune opposition of 2006 and ‘07 addressed in the Spring 2007 issue of CHA. There are similar themes between these transits, but some very essential differences. Saturn and Chiron are both teacher archetypes, both relate to the physical world and both can indicate areas of woundedness and vulnerability in the body or psyche that are potential gifts and abilities. The most distinguishing difference between them is that Saturn signifies separation from the whole of life; it speaks of our sense of alienation from divinity, nature, each other and ourselves. Chiron signifies a return to wholeness, integration, reconnection, and healing of what has been divided, damaged or diseased. Saturn teaches us in an adversarial way through lack, denial, pain and difficulty, while Chiron is a more fostering teacher that acts as an ally in our life journeys.
Chiron was discovered 30 years ago between the orbits of Saturn and Uranus. It is now thought of as a mediating bridge between the personal inner planets that orbit within the limits of space-time bound Saturn and the transpersonal, higher-octave outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Its themes are the integration of body, mind and spirit, healing and the actualization of our gifts and life purpose. Chiron’s archetypes are the wounded healer, the teacher, the mentor, and the shaman.
On an esoteric level, each outer planet represents different aspects of divine or cosmic energies. Uranus represents divine light and intelligence, Neptune divine love and sound, and Pluto divine will and power. As an integrator of the energies of the inner and outer planets, Chiron’s energy assists us in opening our bodies and selves to these higher frequency energies in a way that simultaneously helps us to heal and become more deeply connected to ourselves and our true callings. Chiron transits often bring health crises, be they physical or psychological, that serve as vehicles for deep healing and greater self-actualization, or, they may coincide with significant periods of actualization in our lives that enable us to heal old wounds.
When Chiron transits Neptune , we are called to connect more fully with our visions, ideals, intuitions and imagination. Neptune attunes us to our soul life, feelings and inspiration. It represents the heights and depths of our feelings from ecstasy and rapturous bliss to agonizing grief and sorrow. It can be time of letting feelings flow and go that have been long held back. The joining of Chiron and Neptune promotes the healing of feelings through full acceptance, forgiveness and compassion. Neptune can be a baffling energy to comprehend. On one hand, Neptune signifies higher states of consciousness, refined perceptions and sensitivity, serenity, compassion, trust in a higher power and a sense of oneness with life, on the other hand, Neptune can manifest as delusional thinking, dependency issues, escapism, drug and alcohol addiction, deception, paralyzing passivity and victimhood. With Chiron and Neptune uniting we have a greater opportunity to address and heal these destructive Neptunian behavior patterns and replace them with benign ones. We may see drug and alcohol problems soar even higher over the next few years, but, the silver lining is that more people will seek help and find recovery during this time. It is an AA tenet that Alcoholism is a spiritual problem with a spiritual solution, an idea originally expressed by Carl Jung to a patient who later played an instrumental part in the founding of AA.
Both Chiron and Neptune rule practices such as Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Qui-Gong as they align and attune our bodies to the flow of subtle, spiritual energies. Their popularity will continue to grow over the next few years; however, people’s interests will start gravitating more to the spiritual aspects of practice and not just the physical health benefits.
Neptune relates to sound, music, dance and artistic inspiration, and Chiron corresponds to alternative and natural forms of healing. Sound healing, whether it be singing, chanting, bells, gongs, chimes, or musical instruments can be utilized to dissolve and dissipate accumulated stress and blockages in the body and mind and help us deeply relax and attune to the healing vibrations of our souls. While Chiron and Neptune collaborate, the trinity of healing, creativity and spirituality will be explored and studied in depth and much will be learned about their vital interrelationship.
Chiron represents our relationship to our bodies, the earth, and the plant and animal kingdoms; an interesting aspect of many Chiron transits is that they are often accompanied by a special relationship with an animal that may play a therapeutic or instructional role in our lives. Animals can help us accept the natural grace and dignity of our own creaturehood and experience a nurturing and nonverbal communion with life. The union of Neptune and Chiron enhances receptivity to the beauty and balm of nature. Here on the Cape, we are especially fortunate to just have to step out the door and keep walking to experience life’s ever-present healer, earth and her oceans.
Neptune presides over water, especially the oceans. One of the most concrete manifestations of this transit is the growing crisis and concern for our water supplies and the health of our oceans, rivers and marine life. Over the next few years we will see the crisis escalating, demanding the need for collaborative efforts around the globe to clean up and protect the earth’s waters and the effected wildlife. It’s time for us to restore that which is vitally restorative to us. During these troubling times, the union of Chiron and Neptune offers help in tuning into our sources of inspiration, and healing for our wounded parts and planet.

Getting Down to Business: Winter Solstice 2007
Hang in; another spin around the sun is about to begin. The astrological New Year begins at the Winter Solstice, and this yearâs chart is full of challenge and promise. As the Sun stills before veering northward, its stands in close conjunction with Jupiter, planet of opportunity and growth and Mercury, planet of communications and commerce, in the prudent and pragmatic sign of Capricorn. Plutoâs in on this line-up too while still in the last degrees of Sagittarius, but weâll get to that later.
Jupiter spends about a year in each sign; it enters Capricorn on December 18, 2007 not to leave until January 5, 2009. Jupiter is singing a much different tune this year than last. This year Jupiter is traveling through cautious and conscientious Capricorn whose qualities of constraint, practicality and accountability definitely cramps Jupiterâs expansive and happy go lucky style. In Capricorn, Jupiter offers us the opportunity to gain and grow through exercising deliberation, restraint and perseverance.
Amplifying the pragmatic and productive Capricorn themes in the solstice chart is a supportive trine aspect to the planets in Capricorn from its ruling planet Saturn as it transits through Virgo. Saturn entered Virgo on September 2, 2007 where it will remain for the next two years. Saturn whistles while he works in Virgo, as a love of productivity and diligence are traits they share. With Saturn in Virgo and Jupiter in Capricorn teaming up, we would be wise to employ the adage âless is moreâ. Last year Jupiter and Saturn were in the big spending fire signs Leo and Sagittarius. This year they are in frugal earth signs and zipping up their wallets. Itâs time to simplify, cutback, get our ducks in a row, and become more responsible and fiscally fit.
While taskmaster Saturn resides in Virgo, itâs time to focus and work on the areas of life in Virgoâs domain. This is especially true for Virgos, but we all stand to benefit by heeding Saturnâs current lesson plan. Some of Virgoâs themes are work and vocational calling, self-development, the acquisition and refinement of skills, apprenticeship and mentorship, improvements in organization and efficiency, health, diet and exercise and the mind body, spirit interrelationship.
Itâs a great time for beginning a new business, or getting an existing business reorganized and running more effectively. Itâs time to seriously consider our work lives and make necessary adjustments and changes. Useful and meaningful work is of the essence to Virgo. For some, it may be time to change course, get more education and enter a new field, while others may stay on course but get more training and hone their skills. While Saturn was in Leo for the last two years many may have discovered a stronger sense of purpose and something that they would love to do ifâ¦well, now is the time to get busy and do it. The Force is with you.
As mentioned earlier, Pluto is also conjunct the Sun in the solstice chart in late Sagittarius. Pluto will be making its entry into Capricorn on January 25th, 2008 for the first time since 1762 where it remained until 1778, coinciding with the American Revolutionary period and the birth of our nation. Pluto will now be in Capricorn from 2008 through 2024. The Pluto in Sagittarius super-size me, gas guzzling, nothing succeeds like excess decade is definitely over. Pluto is passing into the most down to earth, conservative and economical of signs. Itâs time to pay the piper.
We have been experiencing a long series of major Pluto transits to the U.S. chart which began in 2001 and will continue right up to 2022 when Pluto will be coming home to roost to its natal position in the U.S. horoscope in 2022. We are in âinteresting timesâ to say the least. Its transits coincide with power struggles, extreme situations, upheaval, uprisings, breakdown, destruction, reformation, evolutionary crisis and the need to transform. Pluto signifies power and its uses and abuses, all things covert, underground and behind the scenes. Pluto symbolizes the shadowy, denied, repressed and rejected parts of people, institutions governments, etc. Pluto represents the riches and resources within the earth. Capricorn is the sign of authority, law and order, patriarchy, hierarchy, government, business, corporations, economics and security systems. Capricornâs sphere of influence is in for a magnum overhaul. For better or worse, Plutoâs (planet of power and influence) return to Capricorn (sign of accountability) will be a time of reckoning for the U.S. Our country will be confronted with how responsibly, recklessly or ruthlessly it has employed its wealth and resources and wielded its power in the world.
The mandate of Pluto in Capricorn for us as individuals and a people is to grow up and take greater responsibility for ourselves, our government, our world and planet. We must become a more informed and empowered citizenry and stop being manipulated by fear and greed and passively abdicating our power to the big daddies of government, corporations and institutionalized religion. Under Pluto in Capricorn, it is imperative that governmental authority and financial powers be questioned and challenged, as our forbearers did just a Pluto cycle ago when they started a revolution.

Jupiter and Uranus fall 2007
Jupiter Square Uranus: Shaking and Stirring and Waking Us Up!
Break-ups, breakdowns, breakthroughs, bustin’out, the bolt from the blue, big leaps of faith and big changes in world view are just a few of the things a Jupiter and Uranus combo can do. Expansive and adventurous Jupiter and erratic and disruptive Uranus have been squared-off throughout 2007. The first exact square occurred in January, the second in May and the final one will be on October 9, 2007 with Jupiter at 15° of Sagittarius and Uranus at 15° of Pisces.
With buoyant Jupiter traveling though its home sign of spirited Sagittarius this year, we get an extra boost of boldness to venture forth where we may have formerly feared to tread. Jupiter pushes us to broaden our horizons, to grow, to learn, to seize opportunities for improvement, advancement and enjoyment. Jupiter lends hope, faith and the confidence to take risks. Jupiter signifies our beliefs, our philosophy, how we view and relate to the world. It represent the big picture, society, culture, the global, and big societal and political systems such as the health care, justice, economic and educational systems.
Uranus prods us to wake-up, to see things in a new light, to liberate ourselves, to be more creative, experimental, innovative and willing to change. It rules electricity, technology, new concepts and inventions. It stands for unique individuality, the different, the unusual, the alternative, the weird, wild and wacky. Uranus says viva la difference! It’s that spark of creative fire that inspires us to act upon our heart’s desires. Uranus’s purpose is to awaken, enlighten and enliven. Uranus urges us to seek and express our truth and creativity in some way whether it’s brilliant or bonkers.
These planets share many common themes, such as freedom, truth seeking, discovery, risk-taking and creative change. However, since Jupiter’s orbit lies within that of Saturn’s, Jupiter’s freedom and truth tends to stay within the boundaries of conventional wisdom and cultural acceptance. Jupiter’s range may be broad and far-reaching, but will never go too far a field of accepted thought and behavior; but, Uranus, whose orbit lies beyond Saturn’s limits, breaks with conventions and norms creating the innovator, the maverick, the truth-sayer, the nutcase, the genius. Jupiter may push the envelope a bit, but Uranus will tear it up and eat it.
With Jupiter and Uranus at odds, both our personal belief systems and our societal systems are challenged to get current with the living truth of our situations. Together Jupiter and Uranus raise consciousness and instigate a desire for liberation, reform, rebellion and radical change. Their orbital cycle together is an important and exciting one to keep an eye on and take advantage of as new possibilities and prospects for greater freedom and creative expression, as well as cultural and political change are always presented. We are presently in the last quarter of their cycle before the next conjunction in 2010 when their potential and power for revolutionary change will be at their max, especially as they will be in a dynamically potent square with Pluto.
The creative tension of the current square brings attention to underlying problems through mounting discomfort and difficulty, bringing situations to crisis. The square promotes awareness and action. An example of the Jupiter and Uranus square on a collective level is the Global Warming Crisis. Due to climate changes and extreme weather patterns and in good part to Al Gore’s Promethean efforts and film An Inconvenient Truth, the global warming crisis is finally being recognized as such. (The Saturn and Neptune opposition occurring this past year is also a highly significant indicator of this crisis.) As an interesting aside, Gore was born with a Jupiter and Uranus opposition in his birth chart in square to his Mercury, the planet of thought and communication. As he traverses the globe right now delivering his message, the transiting Uranus and Jupiter square is conjunct his natal Mercury galvanizing his birth potential as a consciousness-raiser, truth-sayer, and societal reformer. The health care crisis is reaching critical mass and is getting more attention thanks in part to another individual born with a Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus configuration, (also being activated by the current transit) provocateur, Michael Moore and his film Sicko, an exposé and indictment of our current health care system. On another front, the crisis in Iraq is escalating and opposition to the war has grown exponentially throughout this year. Push has come to shove and around the time of the last pass of the square in October, a change in policy and direction will be underway.
As Jupiter and Uranus spar, we are challenged individually and collectively, to revamp our thoughts and beliefs, to open to new possibilities, to jump out of limiting boxes of habit and fear, to entertain new ideas and seek fresh solutions to whatever problems we face. It’s time to take some risks, to stir up some change, and to do things a whole lot differently.

Saturn opposing Neptune: The Dueling Illusionists
We do not see things as they are, but as we are.
The Talmud
It’s time for a reality check. The two grand masters of illusion, Saturn and Neptune, are poised in a challenging face-off. Yes, Saturn is supposed to be the no-nonsense, ‘just the facts, ma’am’, real as dirt planet and Neptune the ethereal, illusory, out there, one, but things are not always as they appear. Saturn can be thought of as the reality of our illusions and Neptune the illusion of our reality. Or is it the other way around? That’s the rub when Saturn and Neptune meet. We live in a veritable hall of mirrors. The metaphysics of astrology implies that our universe is interactive, with consciousness and reality forever mirroring and informing each other - ” As above so below, as within, so without.” No wonder we’re so confused. We are walking, talking paradoxes simultaneously taking part in both the world of form and the great beyond – or is that the great within?
Saturn and Neptune began their opposition in late 2004, but it did not become exact until late August 2006 (aptly, coinciding with the release of the movie, The Illusionist), and again late February 2007; they will be in exact opposition for the last time on June 25th, 2007. The influence of this transit will continue to linger through 2008. Though we are all experiencing the influence of this transit, those most directly affected are those with planets in the latter half of the signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.
Like its cosmic companions, Uranus and Pluto, Neptune opens us to the vast unseen world, but Neptune can prove more elusive to grasp. Some of the more tangible examples of Neptune in our world are the ocean and water, sound waves, music, dance, poetry, photography, film, gases, drugs and alcohol. It signifies the collective unconscious, visions, dreams, ideals, imagination, creative and spiritual inspiration, and compassionate service. Neptune ultimately represents eternity, infinity, unity, spirituality, and the creative void of infinite potential. It is considered the Universal Solvent. Its highest expressions are communion, ecstasy, bliss, profound peace, and boundless love. We can tune into the higher vibrational world of Neptune through, meditation, prayer, quiet reflection and contemplation, music, dancing, chanting, and communing with nature. Within the saturnine, physical world of separation, form and fear, the higher expressions of Neptune are difficult to attain and maintain. Neptunian pitfalls include escapism, confusion, addiction, delusion, deception, passivity and victimization.
Saturn, on the other hand, in its roles of builder and teacher helps us to grasp hold. Saturn embodies the process of manifestation. Saturn gives form to Neptune’s world of oneness and infinite possibilities creating separation and our world of duality and polarity. Saturn exemplifies the principles of order, structure, authority and control. Saturn likes to build things up and nail them down. Constructive principles in Saturn’s sphere are discipline, responsibility, commitment, practicality, objectivity, sobriety, patience, perseverance and mastery. Difficult ones are fear, pain, inhibition, lack, struggle, negativity, pessimism, rigidity, depression, and limitation.
When planets enter into a challenging opposition crisis occurs; the principles and qualities they represent are in direct confrontation exposing each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The opposition is the most difficult of aspects, but it also carries the most opportunity for increased awareness and pivotal change. When Saturn and Neptune meet the difficulties and challenges are manifold, and the positive potentials untold.
At the interface of Saturn and Neptune dreams meet reality and reality meets dreams. We are faced with the need to discern fact from fiction, illusion from actuality, goals from fantasy, true ideals from false images. Is our life a reflection of our dreams and ideals? What are we doing to bring them together? Are our dreams and ideals a true reflection of who we are, or are they imposed by the media, the culture the needs and values of others? For some, this can be a time when important visions are coming to realization, yet there is a need for fine tuning the vision and renewing commitment. For others, it can be a time of stark realizations and disappointment. For some of us, a sea change may be taking place in which stable aspects of our lives shift, or drift away, ushering in a period of uncertainty and disorientation which serves as a vehicle for an inward voyage of reflection and spiritual growth. This is a sobering time in which we are called to end our denial around evasive, addictive, delusional, and deceptive behaviors and take greater responsibility. It is time to empty ourselves of the old and outlived that we may be open and receptive to a new flow of life and inspiration.
This planetary opposition challenges us with the conflicting need to hang in and let go at the same time. Time to trust and keep on keeping on. An ideal instruction manual for navigating the often troubled waters of a Saturn and Neptune transits can be found in the 12 steps of recovery of AA, which was founded in 1935 during another Saturn and Neptune opposition.
This is a time to pare down to essence and essentials, to sink to a deeper, truer, more authentic level of ourselves while lifting our sights higher. It’s time to get quiet and listen for the soft silent sound resonating in our heart of hearts ever steering our way. Some solitude and introspection are essential now to shape and revision our ideals, dreams and aspirations. We need to carve out time in our schedules to commune with spirit, with nature, with our creative muse. We have an opportunity now to marry this uneasy yet ideal pair by joining perspiration and inspiration, dedication and vision, compassion and commitment, effort and grace, reason and intuition, the mundane and magical, the everyday and mystical – heaven and earth. It’s high time to tune in, get real and dream true - we’ve got miraculous work to do.

Outlook on Aquarius
The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.
Frederick Buechner
Ever since the Fifth Dimension’s song heralding the dawning of the Age of Aquarius hit the air waves in 1969, the notion of an Aquarian Age has been part of our mass consciousness. Whether or not the Age of Aquarius has technically begun is still being debated by astrologers, but there is little doubt that the combined influences of the recent transit of Uranus through Aquarius from 1995 through 2003, Neptune’s current transit through Aquarius from 1998 to 2012, and now Chiron’s passage through this sign from 2005 through 2011 are strongly activating Aquarian themes in our lives.
Bringing this Aquarian energy closer to home for us, Venus planet of art and matters of the heart forms a conjunction with Chiron in the 2005 Winter Solstice chart and again in the 2006 Spring Equinox chart. This conjunction is highlighted and challenged by an opposition from Saturn in Leo.
So what does it all mean? Let’s first look at what the sign Aquarius is about. Aquarius is a progressive and innovative sign concerned with education, the arts, science and technology, and with liberating and expanding the possibilities of human potential and culture. Its most apt mythological archetype is Prometheus, the rebel Titan, who stole fire from the gods for the benefit of humanity. Its realm is the interrelationship between the individual and the group. Aquarius struggles with the dilemma of needing to set itself apart by developing its own unique perspective and distinct individuality, and also wanting to belong to a group of kindred souls that shares its interests and ideals. Aquarius is especially interested in what can be created by people joining their individual talents together, be it a new scientific discovery, solutions to problems, a medical breakthrough, a work of art, or social and political reform. It is the sign of friendships, teamwork, groups, networks, alliances and organizations.
Chiron, the planet of healing, mentoring and body/mind/spirit integration, entered Aquarius over the last year and will remain there until 2011. Aquarius rules invention and technological progress, and Chiron represents our relationship to our bodies and the earth. With Chiron, the wounded healer, placed in Aquarius, we can no longer deny or avoid facing the environmental and health crisis we have created by allowing our technological advancements to often outstrip our ability to use them with wisdom and care. However, Aquarius is a sign of great ingenuity and altruism. During this time, we can expect to see many new paradigms emerge in health, education, the arts and sciences, and even religion as people from divergent areas and disciplines share ideas and collaborate to solve global problems and existential mysteries.
Between December 18, 2005 and March 14, 2006, Venus conjoins with Chiron three times. With the planets of healing and love and appreciation joined in the sign of friendship, this is an opportune time for renewing, mending and celebrating our relationships with friends and companions. It is also a great time for beginning new creative endeavors, especially with the support of a group or class.
Presently, Chiron in Aquarius is traveling in opposition to Saturn in Leo. One of the effects of this particular combination of energies is a sense of urgency to discover and develop our unique gifts and talents and offer them in some way to the world. Both Saturn and Chiron have to do with the actualization of our life path or calling, and the Leo and Aquarius polarity are associated with creative self-expression - Leo on an individual level, Aquarius in connection to a group; e.g., a dancer in a troupe, an athlete on a team, or a scientist in a research group. Those with planets in Aquarius and Leo and those with planets squaring this opposition in Taurus and Scorpio will feel this call to actualization most intensely; however, those with planets in the other fire signs (Sagittarius and Aries) and air signs (Gemini and Libra) will also be feeling the mobilizing affects. Saturn in the sign of Leo asks that we find the courage and commitment to risk expressing our hearts and minds, and Chiron in Aquarius that we join with others to educate, help, heal, entertain, liberate and revolutionize our world.
