Aspects are the geometrical or angular relationships between the planets determining and describing the nature of their interaction.
Conjunction 0° (orb of allowance 13°) The conjunction is considered to be the most obvious and powerful of the aspects. The energies of the planets involved are merged and blended together. They act as one. How harmoniously they work together depends upon the nature of the planets involved.
Opposition 180° (orb of allowance 13°) The planets involved in an opposition are vying with each other for expression. There is a continual confrontation between the aspects of the personality and the life principles represented by the polarized planets. Oppositions are generally worked out within the individual by unconsciously projecting one end of the opposition out onto others by whom they are challenged.
Square 90° (orb of allowance 10°) The planets involved cannot each freely express themselves without challenging, or curbing the free expression of the other. This is a dynamic, growth promoting aspect through internal conflict and creative tension.
Sextile 60° (orb of allowance 7°) With the sextile there is the opportunity for the planetary energies to collaborate in creative ways and coax each other to grow. It is a friendly, cooperative interchange, but some effort must be made to make the most of the positive potential.
Trine 120° (orb of allowance 10°) Trines indicate an easy harmonious flow of energy between the planets involved. Traditionally, the trine has been considered a very benefic aspect showing innate talents. However, it does not always manifest positively, because there is a constant, easy flow of energy between the planets it can also manifest as a chronic condition or problematic, habitual behavior.
Quincunx 150º ( orb of allowance 5º) The angle between the planets is indirect, the planets do not directly confront each other, yet their relationship is one of tension and discomfort. With some awareness and effort the quincunx can be an interesting and innovative combination of energies.
Semi-square 45º and Sesquiquadrate 135º (orb of allowance 5º) These are very similar in expression to the square. They provide challenge and creative tension with a little less dynamism than the square.
